WE PROUDLY PRESENT JULIANA SHIELDS, MD

Family Medicine

Dr. Juliana Shields is a dedicated family physician with deep roots in Alaska, where she was raised. After completing her undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Dr. Shields worked as a social worker for many years. Her desire to make a lasting impact on individuals and families ultimately fueled her transition into medicine.

She pursued her medical education through the WWAMI program at the University of Washington, a unique initiative that supports medical training across Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. This experience allowed Dr. Shields to blend rigorous academic training with hands-on practice in her home state. Remarkably, she welcomed her first child during her very first month of medical school, learning early on how to balance the demands of parenthood with rigorous studies.

Dr. Shields completed her residency at the Alaska Family Medicine Residency. Following her residency, she worked as a hospitalist and later moved her family to New Zealand for a year, where she served as a lone rural general practitioner. Today, Dr. Shields specializes in family medicine, bringing a unique perspective and compassionate care to her patients.

Her commitment to health and well-being extends beyond her practice. She enjoys biking, hiking, and backpacking, and her love for outdoor adventure is matched by her enthusiasm for travel. She often shares these experiences with her three children, who range from college age to elementary school. Her dynamic and balanced approach to life enriches both her professional work and personal experiences.

Dr. Shields is excited to bring her expertise and passion for holistic care to the IPMS community. She looks forward to helping her patients lead healthier, happier lives.
